Mission
The mission of Hunt Test Know How (HTKH) is to be leaders in the dissemination of information,
ideas, and knowledge of retriever hunt tests. Our goal is to give members of the hunt test
community the resources and wisdom they need that will lead to their individual and collective
success and enjoyment.
Purpose
The overriding purpose of HTKH is to eliminate the confusion that the average handler,
regardless of experience level, is exposed to during the course of preparing
for
and participating in hunt tests. There is a tremendous amount of variation,
confusion and misinformation that exists in the sport today.
The result is diminished success, enjoyment, and increased frustration for the participants.
HTKH reduces the confusion by providing useful knowledge and skills leading to wisdom that
will enable a participant to more fully enjoy their hunt tests experience.
About HTKH

HTKH is a collaborative effort between two dedicated, experienced hunt test participants,
writers and judges, Julie Maloit Cairns from Arcata, CA. and Jim Drager, from Reading PA.
(See the bios in the presenter's section of this Web site for more detail). Combined,
Julie and Jim have over 45 years experience in field work with retrievers, and successfully
completed over 100 AKC field judging assignments.
Hunt Test Know How provides useful information and skills for every level of hunt test
participant. We give the beginner to the sport the opportunity to see a natural progression
from beginning to advanced training levels and how dogs respond accordingly. The beginner
gets the information they need to successfully start their participation in tests. The more
advanced participant will gain a new understanding of how tests are set up and how judges score.
Hunt Test Know How gives participants a better understanding of what they are training for,
and a strategic plan for training and testing that will lead to increased success and enjoyment.
All participants gain new insights and get answers to all aspects of the sport.
In this Web site you will find information about HTKH, our seminars and presenters and related
information. We hope that you enjoy your visit and find the information helpful! Please let us
know of anything that we can do to help you more fully enjoy the great sport of retriever hunt tests.
